Topics Included:
Course material

This course aims to provide an introduction to methods of data analysis that are especially useful in dealing with geophysical data; while time series are emphasized, other types of statistical methods are also covered. The intention is to provide the student with background on a number of methods, and awareness of many others. The course is intended for first-year graduate students with a good undergraduate background in math.

Topics Included:

Random variables and distribution functions, including moments and joint distributions.

Common probability distributions.

Hypothesis testing, especially of distributions.

Statistical inference and estimation, including maximum liklihood and least squares.
