Ph.D. opportunities

I'm always looking for students with a strong background in physics, math, and quantitative Earth sciences. If you have a BS degree in one of the above disciplines (or, more generally, in natural, computer, or engineering sciences), and interest in any of these research areas, you may consider applying for a Ph.D. program at the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California San Diego. Send me an email for more details. Some details on the application process and a link to the on-line application form can be found here.

Here are career paths of some of my former students and postdocs:

Sylvain Barbot - after stints at Caltech and EOS (Singapore), now a professor at Univ. of Southern California
Eric Lindsey - postdoc at EOS (Singapore), moved on to a faculty position at Univ. of New Mexico
Katia Tymofyeyeva - researcher at Caltech/JPL, NASA
Kang Wang - postdoc at UC Berkeley
Yariv Hamiel - senior researcher at the Geological Survey of Israel
Jill Pearse - professor at Los Andes University, Colombia
Yoshi Kaneko - researcher at GNS, New Zealand; now a professor at Kyoto University, Japan
Junle Jiang - postdoc at Cornell Univ.; now a professor at Univ. of Oklahoma
